TWINSBURG -- Twinsburg City Council voted 7-0 Tuesday, Dec. 11, to approve the proposed 2013 appropriations budget, a total of about $39 million for regular city expenses, a 12 percent increase over the 2012 budget.
City officials must file the approved appropriations with the Summit County Fiscal Office by Dec. 31. Financial Director Karen Howse said Tuesday that strong leadership from Mayor Katherine Procop and City Council have allowed for an increased budget after years of tight finances following the closing of the Chrysler Stamping Plant in 2008 and the approval of a .25 percent increase to the city's income tax in 2010.
"We've come a long way from 2010 when that quarter percent was passed," Howse said. "Thanks to the administration and department heads working so well together and council giving us that support and guidance as well, we did achieve an ultimate goal that most cities don't have an opportunity to [reach]. Congratulations to all the department heads who worked very hard to ensure we maintain our budget."
