Twinsburg -- National DCP, a $2 billion, Atlanta-based supply chain company for Dunkin' Donuts, has announced it will open its eighth distribution center in Cornerstone Business Park in October.

The 81,000-square-foot center at 8794 Independence Parkway -- to be housed in an existing multi-tenant building in the city's burgeoning industrial park -- will employ 50 people full-time and deliver ingredients, food products, beverages and supplies to nearly 400 Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in the region.

Cornerstone Business Park sits on 167 acres at the corner of Chamberlin and East Aurora roads, site of the former Chrysler Stamping Plant.

"We are very excited about the distribution center coming here," said Twinsburg Mayor Ted Yates. "Cornerstone has exceeded our expectations and we look forward to the company coming here."

Scott Carter, chief executive officer for National DCP, said the center is part of the company's "farm-to-fork" philosophy.

"Twinsburg is the perfect location for our new distribution center," Carter said. "Our analysis found that it will be the best geographic point for servicing the increasing number of Dunkin' restaurants in the region ... and we gained access to a talented, experienced labor pool with the Twinsburg, Cleveland and Akron markets."

NDCP has made an $11 million total investment in the Twinsburg facility, according to Emily McDougald, manager of corporate communications for NDCP. A total payroll was not immediately known.

According to NDCP officials, NDCP has been adding centers across the country in support of Dunkin' Donuts' growth. In 2015, 349 new Dunkin' Donuts restaurants opened in the U.S., NDCP officials said.

With 19 truck docks, officials estimate the Twinsburg distribution center will save about 1.2 million miles driven by NDCP trucks annually as a result of the centralized location.

"National DCP has done a tremendous job in managing the day-to-day operational costs of their infrastructure, focusing on improved service levels and, very importantly, demonstrating great expertise buying in a sometimes volatile commodities market," said Nigel Travis, chairman and chief executive officer for Dunkin' Brands. "Their ... management skills have resulted in significant cost savings, a higher level of service and uniform product costs for Dunkin' Donuts franchisees across our U.S. restaurant network."

NDCP's Twinsburg center is scheduled to begin distribution in late October, and an official grand opening will take place in November, McDougald said.

NDCP is the fifth business to take up residence at Cornerstone and will join Bridgestone Americas Inc. and Berlin Packaging in an existing 207,000-square-foot multi-tenant facility.

Bridgestone comprises about 30,000 square feet of the building and employs 50 people full-time. Berlin Packaging comprises another 30,000 square feet of the facility and employs between 50 and 60 people full-time.

Already operational at the industrial park (in separate buildings) are Vistar, a 63-employee, 137,000-square-foot vending machine supply company; and global courier FedEx, with its $2 million payroll, 400,000-square-foot facility and 50 full-time, 128 part-time and more than 200, non-permanent contracted jobs.
