Twinsburg Historical Society ready for great times at Olde Thyme Fayre

Celebration is Sept. 10-11 at Twinsburg Historical Society Museum and Barn, 8996 Darrow Road

Twinsburg -- There will be something for everyone at the Olde Thyme Fayre Sept. 10 and 11, the popular early fall celebration at the Twinsburg Historical Society Museum and Barn that takes visitors back in time.

According to historical society members, the Twinsburg of 100 years ago will come alive at the fair, a celebration of specialty breads and sack races, of tin shops (the old hardware stores) and homemade quilts and jams.

And there will be new items this year. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 10 and noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 11.

Betsy and Susan Diersing, Twinsburg residents and professional bakery chefs, will offer speciality breads filled with cheese, peppers and pepperoni; and sweet treats such as cookies and brownies. Their food will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10 or until they sell out. Profits will benefit the Twinsburg Historical Society, Twinsburg artists and entrepreneurs.

"They have offered to be our bakery this year," said Audrey Kancler, with the historical society. "And we know they make great things."

Angela Dobbins-Rivera of "Escentially Inspired" will offer artisan soaps, candles and skin care products for sale from noon until 5 p.m. both days.

Cynthia Schamber will sell a variety of jewelry items, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 10 and from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 11. Joining Schamber will be her mother, Lotus, with paintings and craft items.

People will also show off their special culinary skills with homegrown produce and flowers, as well as homemade jellies and canned goods, which will be judged by members of the Twinsburg Garden Club.

Items for judging can be brought in from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 9; and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Sept. 10.

Handcrafted items are also welcome. Bring anything sewn, quilted, knitted, crocheted, woven, painted, or carved to the museum and barn from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 9.

The baking contest Sept. 11 is all about cinnamon rolls, which must be made from scratch. There will be separate categories for adult and children (12 and younger). Entries may be dropped off at the barn between noon and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

In addition, the society has designed a 2017 calendar celebrating the Bicentennial, and the book, "Explore Twinsburg: A Photographic Essay of Twinsburg," will be available at the fair for $32 a copy. Some of the proceeds will benefit the historical society, and some will benefit the Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce, which also assisted with the book.
