Cleveland Scrappers, Babes of 1916 take field for beepball game

Scrappers and Babes take field

The Cleveland Scrappers, a beepball team for the blind and visually impaired, will play the Babes of 1916, a Solon Senior softball team for players 65 and older.

The game will be Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Solon Community Field No. 4 at 6679 SOM Center Road in Solon.

The game will showcase the talents of both teams, with the spotlight on the Cleveland Scrappers' athleticism and ability to overcome obstacles through a competitive game of beepball softball.

The exhibition game is free and open to the public. Lawn chairs or blankets are recommended for seating as the game is played in the outfield grass.

Food truck lunches raise money

for hunger center

The Fuchs Lubricants Co. at 8036 Bavaria Road in the Macedonia Industrial Park will sponsor "Food Truck Fridays" in September to help raise funds and awareness for Our Community Hunger Center in Twinsburg.

Every Friday in September from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fuchs' parking lot, stop and grab some lunch at various food trucks. Bring a donation for the Our Community Hunger Center pantry and get a free bottle of water with lunch.

Items needed include: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet tissue and paper towels, laundry products and cleaning supplies.

The next food truck will be Sept. 9 with Simply Southern Sides, specializing in southern BBQ and soul food. On Sept. 16 will be Smokin' Rock 'n Roll, specializing in smoked meats and voted one of Cleveland's best-tasting and most entertaining food trucks. On Sept. 23 will be Firetruck Pizza, specializing in gourmet wood-fired pizzas. And on Sept. 30 will be Betty's Bomb Ass Burgers, specializing in gourmet hamburgers.
