TWINSBURG -- "Play, Learn & Grow," a collaborative between the Twinsburg Public Library and Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority, has won the 2017 Roslyn Z. Wolf Award, a $10,000 grant through the National Council of Jewish Women/Cleveland.
Library officials say they are looking forward to using the Wolf Award to enhance the work the collaborative has been doing with young children in Twinsburg Township. Play, Learn & Grow is located on-site at Pinewood Gardens, an AMHA property in Twinsburg Township.
With the help of the Summit Education Initiative's 16 "Skills for Success," Twinsburg librarians are helping to reinforce important early learning skills each week.
In addition, young participants in the program will receive picture books and felt board stories to be kept at home. Parents will be invited to use a Career Pathways Lab, a mobile computer lab, which will focus on GED test prep, resume writing, interview skills/practice sessions, goal-setting, assistance with job and college applications and more.
Initially, the program was centered around early literacy skills and storytime. Realizing that the success of the child is directly related to the well-being of the family unit, "Play, Learn & Grow" has expanded its focus to include not only early literacy and kindergarten readiness, but also essential linkages to community resources to meet family needs.
