TWINSBURG -- The Twinsburg City School District offers an integrated program for preschool age children at Wilcox Primary School.
The program, which includes students with disabilities and typically developing peer models, operates Monday through Thursday of each week and follows the school calendar. Tuition for the 2016-17 school year was $1,500, but is subject to change for 2017-18. Tuition is payable either in full at the beginning of the school year or in two payments at the beginning of school and after the winter break.
This program provides services for children ages three to four years with disabilities in communication skills, hearing abilities, motor functioning, social/emotional/behavioral functioning and/or vision problems. In compliance with Ohio Department of Education sanctions, a finite number of typical peer models (those children without documented deficits) are needed to complete each classroom roster.
Typical peer models for the coming school year are selected through a lottery process. Parents of eligible students must complete and submit an application in person before Feb. 15. A lottery will take place in March and all applicants will then be put on a waiting list in the order of selection. The first 16 applicants will be notified in March.
A $50 deposit, which will be applied toward preschool tuition, must be submitted with enrollment paperwork to secure a place in the preschool for the coming school year. All other applicants will remain on the waiting list for the remainder of the school year and will be notified if an additional opening arises.
Families of typically developing children must apply each year (January-Feb. 15), to be included in the lottery for the upcoming school year. To be eligible as a typical peer, children must be at least 3 years old by Aug. 1 of that year.
