TWINSBURG -- The Board of Education unanimously approved individual three-year contracts with nine administrators at its May 17 meeting, as two principals, four assistant principals and several other administrators will receive a 1.5-percent raise each year of the contract.
Those administrators, as well as the athletic director and coordinator of K-12 student activities; transportation supervisor; and assistant transportation supervisor, will see their contracts effective Aug. 1 of this year and through July 31, 2020.
Superintendent Kathryn Powers said the raises align with 1.5-percent increases negotiated by the district and teachers in a September 2016 agreement between the district and the Twinsburg Education Association. The TEA contract is effective Sept. 1, 2015, through Aug. 31, 2018, and provides for 1.5 percent increases for teachers each year during those three years.
"What a fantastic group of individuals these administrators are," Powers said. "They make things happen every day for our kids. They understand curriculum. They understand what it takes to be good teachers. I'm proud to recommend each and every one of these contracts."
Board president Mark Curtis said the contract terms reflect the value of a "high quality administrative staff."
"The contract approvals represent the value that the Board places on high quality administrative staff," Curtis said. "These individuals have all demonstrated an ability to lead and represent the district's mission in continuing our tradition of academic excellence."
"We are glad to have you here," said Board Member Tina Davis.
The approved contracts' initial salaries contain the initial 1.5-percent raise. Board unanimously approved three-year contracts for:
- Louise Teringo, principal at Twinsburg High School, at $128,118;
- Reginald Holland, principal at Dodge Intermediate School, at $104,149;
- Alex Popovich, assistant principal at THS, at $99,303;
- Michael King, assistant principal at R.B. Chamberlin Middle School, at $95,841;
- Iwanda Huggins, assistant principal at Dodge, at $95,148;
- Beth Mariola, assistant principal at Dodge, at $86,840;
- Brian Fantone, athletic director and coordinator of K-12 student activities, at $83,773;
- Eric Brunton, transportation supervisor, at $76,781; and
- Tracy Abbott, assistant transportation supervisor, at $48,692.
School lunch prices unchanged
Students and staff will pay the same price for lunch in 2017-18 as they did this year.
Board member Rob Felber commended Mark Bindus, food service supervisor, for his efforts in controlling costs before the Board officially approved the pricing.
"Prices keep going up but they do an amazing job keeping prices down while serving nutritious meals," Felber said.
School lunches for children in the elementary schools are $2.75 apiece, and prices for students at the middle and high school are $3 each. Adult lunches are $3.50, and breakfast across the board is $1.50.
The Board also approved $36,250 in transportation costs to 145 students attending area private and parochial schools for the 2016-17 year. The students will receive $250 each in lieu of the district providing transportation.
