Colonial Dames fall luncheon Oct. 17

On Oct. 17 the Ezekial Richardson Chapter Colonial Dames XVIIC will have its fall luncheon meeting at noon at the Venue, 10 Tallmadge Circle, Tallmadge. Reservations should be made with Libby Erwin, 122 S. Hayden Parkway, Hudson, OH, 44236 by Oct. 10.

Arrangements for the event were made by Vice President Lora Staats.

President Sharon Snowden will lead the opening ceremonies and conduct a short business meeting.

One of the objectives of this organization is to support education. At the August meeting members donated 48 books for Findley Community Learning Center as its outreach program. This school is located in the North Hill area of Akron with 550 students, kindergarten through fifth grade, representing 17 nationalities. Many are from single parent homes and a large group arrived as refugees from all around the globe. Most of the families do not have transportation other than walking.

A few members of this chapter returned to the Laura Williams Dunlop Memorial Stand Down on Sept. 13 at the Firestone VFW Post in Akron. This event is for homeless veterans and the philosophy of Stand Down is "a hand up, not a hand out."

Diane Hall Allison, a Cuyahoga Falls resident and the Parliamentarion of this chapter, will present the program, "Tillie Pierce, what a girl saw and heard during the battle of Gettysburg." Allison is a graduate of Heidleberg University and spent her business career in the insurance field. She belongs to many heritage organizations and the Bethany United Church of Christ in Cuyahoga Falls.

Colonial Dames XVIIC is a national organization and is open to women 18 years and older who can provide lineal decent from an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in of the original colonies. Their purpose is to preserve records and historical sites, educate youth preserve lineage and coats of arms of ancestors.
