Ronald McDonald House manager speaks to Garden Club

FROM STAFF REPORTS Published: March 1, 2017 12:00 AM

TWINSBURG -- The Twinsburg Garden Club will host Mark Destino, house manager at the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland, March 9 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 10285 Ravenna Road, starting at 7:15 p.m.

Destino will discuss the RMD garden's mission, core values and its unique position in the RMD community. His interest in how the Ronald McDonald House can best support families of children with special medical needs began with personal experience.

When his own son was born with a series of significant birth defects, Destino and his wife decided that they wanted their son to grow up in an environment where he would be the norm, not the exception. They wanted him to be around children and families similar to his own. The son is 22 now, and his dad continues to support other families and the community through his work as director of the RMD House. Having joined the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland in March of 1996, Destino lives at the house with his sons and faithful dog, Dash.

His talk at the Twinsburg Garden Club will focus on the gardens at Ronald McDonald House, and he will share how the gardens provide a place of solace for the families who live ther and a resource for the Greater Cleveland area.
