Twinsburg eyes purchase of old Township Hall from Twinsburg Township

Twinsburg -- Council will consider an ordinance tonight that would allow Mayor Katherine Procop to enter into an agreement to purchase the property at 9833 Ravenna Road, the former Township Hall next to the Twins Days Festival Office, from Twinsburg Township for $210,000.

The Ravenna Road property comprises two parcels of land equaling .233 acres.

Procop said that if both parties approve the sale, the building would be used to house props and set pieces for the Twinsburg Community Theatre and provide storage for the city's Parks and Recreation Department.

Twinsburg Township Manager Rob Kagler said Feb. 12 that possible land purchases have been discussed during "numerous executive sessions" at recent Township Trustees meetings but would not comment further.

Any purchase the city makes from the township would have to be approved by Trustees, according to Kagler.

The ordinance authorizing the purchase will stand on first reading during the Feb. 12 City Council meeting, but Procop said she is hopeful it will be passed as an emergency.

Twinsburg Township moved its headquarters out of the building in May 2008, and into the facility that now houses Pawsibilities, the Humane Society of Greater Akron. The township's current headquarters sit at 1790 Enterprise Parkway, a facility into which the township moved in July 2009.
