The Liberty Park ball fields will be transformed into a Wiffle Ball extravaganza again this year, as the Twinsburg Baseball League hosts the third-annual Twinsburg World Series of Wiffle Ball Aug. 27 and 28.

"What started as a fun idea to raise some money for charity and new baseball equipment for the kids of Twinsburg has turned into one of the biggest Wiffle Ball tournaments in the world," said Rich Swerbinsky, president of the TBL. "Last year we had 65 teams enter, including teams from Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and from across ... Ohio. Based on feedback and early registration, we're expecting the tournament to continue to grow in 2016."

The tournament offers all teams two randomly drawn pool play games Aug. 27, with all teams that go 2-0 or 1-1 being seeded and advancing to single elimination championship bracket play Aug. 28.

The event is open to any residents of Twinsburg or other communities in three age divisions (7-10, 11-14, 15-plus).

Teams comprise three or four players, with all players batting and three playing in the field each inning. The tournament is officially sanctioned by Wiffle Ball and features prizes and trophies for the top teams in each bracket.

Wiffle fields will be created in the outfields of the Liberty Park baseball field outfields. Players young and old are expected at the park and a host of vendors and sponsors will maintain booths between the fields.

"It's gratifying to see how much fun all of the players and spectators have at the event, and also to see how many people it brings into the city of Twinsburg," Swerbinsky said. "We're committed to continuing to grow and improve the event each year."
