Twinsburg -- Any time there are winners, there is usually a goat.
In this case, the winners included the hungry and those in need in Summit County and the surrounding area.
And the goat, was, well, a goat.
Spearheaded by Dr. Laura Adelman Associates Inc., a dentist's office based on Vail Drive in Twinsburg, local businesses joined forces for a fundraiser for the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank earlier this fall -- ultimately raising more than $600 in quarters for the food bank as part of September's Hunger Action Month.
"It's humbling and inspiring to see how a quarter can truly impact hunger," Adelman said. "We have an amazing community of families and local businesses who supported this cause and made it a huge success. We're so thankful, and we're excited to set our goal even higher next for next September."
Along with Dr. Adelman's office, participating businesses included KinderCare of Twinsburg; Kathy's Little Angels of Twinsburg; the Young Explorers of Twinsburg; and Dr. Gen Orthodontics.
The group collected about 2,400 quarters at each of these offices and locations, with a goal of raising 2,016 quarters "to help kiss hunger goodbye in 2016."
Combined with the buying power of the food bank, and through two hours of volunteer work at the food bank Sept. 28, Adelman and her colleague, Dr. Rachel Rosen, were able to provide 8,951 meals to the hungry.
Reaching the goal also meant the doctors had to kiss a goat.

According to Adelman, the group has a goal next year of providing more than 10,000 meals between funds raised and volunteer time.
"We are so thankful for the support of the other local businesses," said Elise Bailey, public relations coordinator with Adelman's office. "We couldn't have done it without them."
