TWINSBURG -- There is an open position on The Board of Trustees at the Twinsburg Public Library for the residents of Twinsburg Township.

This term will start in early 2017 and completes the final three years of an unexpired term of Twinsburg Township resident Carrie Hinton, who served the library and the community for 25 years and passed away in late 2016.

According to the by-laws of the Board of Trustees: "The Board of Trustees is composed of seven members and there shall be at least one member from each of the three communities served by the library district."

Ms. Hinton was the sole township resident on the Board. As a result, the Board of Trustees is accepting applications for the open position from residents of Twinsburg Township.

Service on the Board of Trustees is voluntary and without compensation. Trustees are appointed by the Twinsburg City School District Board of Education upon recommendation by the library's Board of Trustees. Trustees serve a 7-year term, or less, if completing an unexpired term.

Trustee application forms and a job description can be obtained at the circulation desk of the Twinsburg Public Library or by visiting www.twinsburglibrary.org/board.

Completed applications and resumes are due at the library by 5 p.m. Feb. 14.

The Board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. Duties include setting the annual budget of the library; establishing library policy; advocating the library to the community; planning for the future of the library; and securing funds needed to operate the library. Trustees take an oath to perform their duties as defined by the Ohio Revised Code.

Candidates must have a strong interest in the welfare of the library and a belief in intellectual freedom and the library's mission of providing information, entertainment, education and inspiration to all members of the communities. They must have the time and energy to devote to the library. All candidates must be at least 18 years old. Trustees are chosen to represent the diversity of the community including a balance of experience and skills in a variety of fields.

For details, contact Board of Trustee President Samuel Taylor at 330-425-4268 ext. 5.

My thanks to Library Board for opening this position to another Township resident to fill the term of our beloved Carrie Hinton even though no one will ever be able to fill her big shoes. I am dismayed that a number of readers deceided to give a thumbs down to this article and it is an insult to her memory as well as to the members of the township as well as the library board that she so capably represented for many years.Offering this slotto a township resident speaks to their desire for diversity and representation from the ENTIRE Twinsburg community and it is my feverent hope that Township residents will apply in droves and continue the legacy of Carrie Hinton and represent the community as she did with grace and dignity.
