TWINSBURG -- The Twinsburg Fire Department will begin hydrant flushing May 1 throughout the community, and the work should be completed by June 30.

The flushing is necessary to maintain the nearly 1,900 fire hydrants located throughout the city and Twinsburg Township, according to the TFD. Water mains of any age can fail during flushing, and it is best that problems are discovered during flushing rather than when they are needed in an emergency.

Twinsburg Fire follows policies for hydrant flushing as established by the Cleveland Division of Water. The TFD asks that residents exercise caution on the roadways and take note of several other items, including:

- Slowly driving past fire crews who are flushing in the roadway. Crews will be in safety vests;

- Being aware of pooling water in roadways after flushing;

- Discolored water. Residential water supplies are tied to the same mains as fire hydrants. Run faucets until the water clears; and

- Reporting any long-term pressure changes or obvious water main breaks;
