TWINSBURG -- Neighborhoods throughout the community are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outdoor lights and spend and evening Aug. 1 at Twinsburg High School enjoying a cookout, music and camaraderie during the popular National Night Out.

Neighborhoods in Twinsburg, Reminderville and Twinsburg Township will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 34th annual National Night Out, a crime and drug prevention event, from 5 to 8 p.m. at THS. This year marks the second that area police forces will participate, with more than 700 people attending the event last year.

The Twinsburg Police Department will organize the event in partnership with Reminderville Police Department, Summit County Sheriff's Office and Summit Metro Parks to become one of more than 16,728 communities from 50 states contributing to the cause.

In all, more than 38.3 million people across the country are expected to participate and Twinsburg hopes to help that number grow.

The evening includes a cookout, inflatables, music and more. To organize the best National Night Out in the area, the Twinsburg Police Department seeks sponsorships and donations of raffle items from local businesses. Each sponsor will receive the benefits listed on the included flyer. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to Twinsburg Government Center or the Twinsburg Police Department (10075 Ravenna Road in Twinsburg 44087) by June 15.

Twinsburg Mayor Ted Yates said following last year's event -- the first for Twinsburg -- he expects the event to become bigger and better this year.

"We do a lot to try to bring the community together with police officers," Yates said in 2016. "This is really a positive step forward for the residents and our safety forces to interact like this."

Call Twinsburg Police Chief Chris Noga at 330-963-6276 for more information on National Night Out.
