Maximize faith, family and finances

August is "Focus on the Family" month, and Bishop Smith of the Sanctuary of Praise Community Church in Twinsburg will present a talk titled, "Maximize Your Potential in Faith, Family and Finances." Fathers are encouraged to attend the 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. sessions on Aug. 15 and 29 at the church. Regularly scheduled Bible study sessions will be conducted in the sanctuary during this time. The noon Bible study sessions for August also will be conducted.

The Christian Education Department will sponsor the annual "Back to School Community Cookout" on Aug. 12 on the church grounds. Food will be served free, and school supplies will be given away. The public is invited.

"Parent's Night Out" fundraiser will continue through September 2007. Children ages 3 to 11 years will snack, watch children's movies and take part in fun-filled activities located in a safe environment, while parents enjoy an evening out. Call Mrs. Walker at 330-963-8651 for more details.

Our Redeemer installs new associate pastor

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church will install the Rev. Matthew Garred as associate pastor at the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Aug. 12. The community is invited to attend the installation. The installation will be conducted by the vice president of the Ohio district, the Rev. David Zachrich, who also will be the guest preacher for the morning.

Garred comes to Our Redeemer from Trinity Lutheran in Reese, Mich., a small town near Saginaw. He has served as associate pastor there for the past six years. He has a wife, Kim, and four children. Garred will fill what has been a two-year vacancy on the pastoral staff. He will join in ministry with the senior pastor, the Rev. Powell Woods and youth director Sally Reemsnyder.
