Twinsburg -- Police have in custody a 27-year-old Akron man who they say tricked his way into the Darrow Road home of an elderly couple and stole medication. Daniel L. Givens was charged Dec. 10 with aggravated burglary, two counts of drug possession and theft of drugs. All are felonies. A passenger in Givens' getaway car, Jesse A. Moon, 22, of Akron, also was arrested and charged with complicity to commit aggravated burglary, two counts of drug possession and complicity to theft of drugs. He is being held in the Summit County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond. Givens was arrested Dec. 10 at Post Road near Liberty Road just before 4 p.m., police said. He is being held in Summit County Jail on a $750,000 cash bond. Both Moon and Givens had preliminary hearings set for Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. before Judge Lisa L. Coates at Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court, court records show. Results of the hearing were not available by press time, and their pleas were not known by press time. On Dec. 10 at 3:36 p.m., Twinsburg police say they responded to a Darrow Road senior citizen apartment complex after a woman reported that a person called her from the apartment complex's vestibule, claiming to work for a cable company. The man allegedly told the woman he needed to make repairs in the building, and the woman buzzed him into the building. Police said that once the man -- later identified as Givens -- was inside the building, he went to the woman's apartment and knocked on the door. According to police, the victim opened the door and Givens, wearing a black ski mask, pushed his way past her, took a bottle of pain killer medication and antacid medication off a living room table and ran out the door. Police said they do not know the value of the drugs. Police said Givens was chased from the complex by a building maintenance employee before jumping into a Chevy Cavalier, which was running, and heading toward Route 91 at high speed, police said. Police were given the vehicle description and license plate number by the building's maintenance person, and just minutes later officers stopped a vehicle matching the description on Post Road near Liberty Road. Givens and Moon were arrested without incident, police said, and the medication was recovered. -- Compiled by Ashley Heeney Comments
