From staff reports

Reminderville -- A St. Peter Chanel High School teacher charged in January with allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a minor now faces an additional 23 felony counts.

Stephen Majercik, 59, of Reminderville, turned himself in to police Jan. 8 after a joint investigation by Reminderville police and Chanel High School officials, according to Reminderville police.

Chanel President Roger Abood said the school contacted police that day and conducted a one-day investigation after learning "suspicious information" during a conversation with a student.

Abood said Majercik, who could not be reached for comment, is suspended until the trial is resolved.

Reminderville Police Chief Jeff Buck said Majercik was charged Jan. 8 with sexual battery, pandering obscenity with a minor, unlawful sexual conduct and illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material, all felonies.

According to a Summit County Common Pleas indictment dated Feb. 22, Majercik is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with at least one minor between December and January.

According to Buck, on Feb. 29, village police met with the Summit County Prosecutor's Office to file 23 additional felony charges against Majercik, including pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.

Investigators executed three additional search warrants, which resulted in the identification of other suspected victims, according to a statement from Reminderville police. Agencies from Reminderville and others in Cuyahoga and Stark counties are involved with the investigation, village police said.

It was not known if the victims were students of Majercik, who was the chair of the technology department and has worked at Chanel for six years. Buck previously said all of the alleged offenses from the Jan. 8 charges occurred at Majercik's Reminderville home.
