Cuyahoga Falls City Councilmember Carol Klinger is the New Summit County Republicans' choice to replace Alex Arshinkoff as the leader of the Summit County Republican Party.
Klinger was introduced by Donald Varian, an organizer with the New Republicans, at a news conference at the John S. Knight Center Tuesday afternoon.
The New Summit County Republicans, led by state Sen. Kevin Coughlin (R-District 27), are engaged in an effort to oust Arshinkoff from his post as the chairman of the county GOP, a position he has held since 1978. The New Republicans allege the party has been mismanaged under the leadership of Arshinkoff, an accusation the party denies.
After the March 4 primary election of candidates to the party's central committee, Coughlin said he believed the New Republicans had enough support for to elect a new party leader. The party is supposed to meet sometime after the results are certified from the March primary election.
