The Twinsburg High School Drama Club is rehearsing for the prize-winning drama "The Miracle Worker" by William Gibson. The show is presented through special arrangement with Samuel French Inc. It is directed by Marti and Dale Franks. Technical director is Maggie Chernick, with the assistance of Chris Fornadel. Chuck Smith is the set builder. Costumes are supervised by Cheri Carder. Show times are April 10 at 3:30 p.m. and April 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. Senior citizens get in free for the matinee. Gibson's book is based on an amazing story of Helen Keller and her teacher, Annie Sullivan. Keller lost her sight and hearing to a fever when she was only 19 months old. For the next six years, Helen's parents tried to keep their daughter in touch with civilization. Just when it appeared the battle was lost, the Kellers found a brave young woman who was eager to help Helen find her way back to the world. The teacher, Annie Sullivan, had been blind herself for much of her childhood. She was placed in an asylum and suffered the loss of her only brother. In spite of her dark beginnings, Sullivan decides to become a teacher and ends up at the Keller home. There, her challenge is not only Helen, who has become a wild child, but the doting family who has abandoned any attempt at discipline. The play focuses on the work that Sullivan does to free Helen from her bondage. Drawing on her experience and other writings, Sullivan wages a war on all fronts. Comments
