Open house honors departing director

Many times small communities are thought to be small minded -- as if a lack of size determines foresight and imagination. Lucky for the library, Karen Tschudy came to Twinsburg 24 years ago and was inspired by the possibilities she found in the moderately-sized suburb.

Tschudy stood in an 11,000-square foot, land-locked building and got to work developing plans that two decades later have brought the library national recognition and made it a destination of choice for residents. It will be sad saying goodbye to Karen, but at the same time, staff members say they are happy that she can start a well-earned retirement knowing she is leaving behind a wonderful legacy. Join the Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Twinsburg Public Library in celebrating Tschudy's distinguished career during an open house in honor of her retirement on May 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Get 'couple's therapy' at the library

Twinsburg Public Library will host relationship expert Kathy Dawson on May 7 at 7 p.m.

Dawson will address the different strategies needed by new couples, new marrieds and new parents to keep their relationships vibrant and alive. Dawson is the author of "Diagnosis: Married" and "Cleveland Couples."

She appears frequently on local radio and television. Register for the program by calling the reference desk at 330-425-4268 ext. 2, or visit www.twinsburglibrary.org.

Marriage and money: Setting up finances

On May 19 at 7 p.m. join Christy Corrice, a financial representative, who will present a program for couples. They will learn to work as partners to create a budget and a long term financial plan. Call the Reference Desk at 330-425-4268 ext. 2 or go online to www.twinsburglibrary.org to make a reservation.

Non-profit grant program offered

The library provides occasional classes to encourage economic development, and to assist and encourage use of the library's databases and resources. "Before You Seek a Grant: A Checklist for New Nonprofits" will be presented on May 14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This free program is suggested for new nonprofits or those thinking about forming one. Good proposals alone are not sufficient for successful foundation fundraising. To register, call 330-425-4268 ext. 2 or register online at www.twinsburglibrary.org.

Book groups available for everyone

The Twinsburg library offers seven different monthly or bimonthly book discussion groups for adults, and all of them are open to new members. They include:

* Gaslight Classics, which meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 2 p.m. to discuss the great novels. In May, the group meets early on May 19 due to Memorial Day, to examine Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels;"

* The Third Monday Book Group, which also meets at 2 p.m. and reads a variety of popular fiction and nonfiction. In May, they will read Anna Quindlen's "Black and Blue;"

* Eastern Voices, which is a group for people of all backgrounds who are interested in books by Asian authors. They will discuss "Brick Lane" by Monica Ali at 7 p.m. on May 12;

* The Men's Book Discussion Group, which will meet on May 13 at 7 p.m. to talk about Clive Cussler's "Atlantis Found." The group welcomes both men and women members;
