The ordinance the city of Twinsburg is trying to pass on rental property inspections is a bad ordinance that should go down to defeat. Article 4 of the U.S. Constitution gives me the right of privacy in my home, and I believe it's not long until an amendment is attached to the ordinance allowing inspections in private homes. The city wants to give the building department the power to enter a rental property to check for violations against the city's codified ordinances, to see if the home is up to standards. If a property has any violations, an inspector can force the homeowner to have repairs done within 30 days or face a fine and jail time. If a person does not allow someone into their property, the building inspector has the power to obtain an order, return with a policeman and force their way in. These tactics went out with Hitler and the Gestapo. And this is only the start. You let the city get 1 inch, and it ends up taking a foot -- do not let this happen. I urge people to call or e-mail Councilmembers to oppose this ordinance. Every day we are losing our freedoms -- freedom that hundreds of thousands of soldiers died to protect. Do not let them have died in vain. Freedom is precious -- please help protect it. Carl Salsgiver Twinsburg Comments
