by Emily Canning-Dean Reporter Twinsburg Township -- When it comes to fitness and recreation memberships, township residents now have a third option. Township Trustees unanimously approved legislation last month to add LifeCenter Plus of Hudson to the township recreational program. Under the program, the township pays one half of the membership dues for a township resident, not to exceed $250 per year for one household. This year the township has budgeted $50,000 for the program, which also includes the Twinsburg and Macedonia recreation centers. "When the LifeCenter Plus heard about our program, they contacted us and wanted to be included," said Trustee Jim Balogh. "Some of our residents live near Hudson, and this would be a good option for them." According to officials at LifeCenter Plus, individual memberships can range from $40 to $74 per month. The township kicked off its rebate program June 11 and, according to Twinsburg Township Hall officials, 51 residents have joined the Twinsburg facility and 13 have joined the Macedonia center. "This is an opportunity to provide access to our residents without the financial burden of building our own facility," Balogh said. To join the rebate program, township residents can go to Township Hall and provide proof of township residence either by driver's license, voter registration card or utility bill, and choose which of the two fitness centers they want to join along with the specific type of membership they want to purchase, according to township Office Administrator Anna Knoch. Once an application is approved for fitness center membership, a resident can pick up their 50 percent rebate check at Township Hall. A resident then would use that check, along with their half of the cost, and pay the fitness center the full amount. The approval process takes a week, Knoch said.
