Special to Record Publishing Co. Twinsburg senior Chris Kelly, shown here at the Summit County Invitational Aug. 23, finished third at North Canton Hoover Aug. 30 in time of 16:53.

It was a very unusual finish at for the Twinsburg boys cross country team North Canton Hoover Aug. 30.

The Tigers finished second to the Bees from Brecksville-Broadview Heights and ahead of the Louisville Leopards, despite all three schools totaling 57 points. The tiebreaker of the sixth runner determined the final places with Brecksville's sixth runner taking 19th, while Twinsburg's was 27th and Louisville's was 42nd.

The Tigers had the overall champion at North Canton Hoover as All-Ohio performer Stuart Edmonds ran a nice race finishing with a time of 16:21. Seniors Chris Kelly (16:53) and Ryan Smith (17:21) finished third and 11th, respectively. Juniors Brent Hunter (17:46) and Josh Edmonds (18:02) rounded out the scoring, placing 18th and 24th.

Also running on the varsity where Eric Teepen and Tyler Chancellor. Juniors Matt Schmitt and Coley O'Brien where medalist in the open race with Matt placing 6th overall and Coley 14th.

According to coach Mike Martin, the Tigers hope to get senior Nate Tarach back for the Tiffin Carnival, which will take place Sept. 6. Martin said he hopes Tarach's return will curtail some of the inconsistencies the Twinsburg team is experieneing right now.

The boys will look to improve on their fifth-place finish from last season at Tiffin. Martin noted the meet is considered one of the top meets in the state and will give the Tigers a tremendous challenge.

Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers continued to show improvement, despite their fifth-place finish at North Canton.

Although there was a very small field, the meet was loaded with quality teams and runners. The defending Division I state champions from Brecksville took second and the No. 2-ranked team from North Canton Hoover (first) had very good performances in this meet.

Twinsburg was led by sophomore Katie Fox' fifth place finish (20:26). Fox ran a very strong race in a tough field, according to Martin.

Also medaling for the Lady Tigers were freshman Sarah Webb (23rd with a time of 22:18) and senior Missy Boyes, who placed 24th with a personal best time of 22:21. Also scoring for Twinsburg where Jasmine Smith (27th with a time of 22:39) and Amanda Marlow (28th with a time of 22:42).

Rounding out the varsity where freshman Amanda Vargos' 33rd place finish and Clara Toth who placed 39th despite a severe case of shin splints.

In the open racel,Twinsburg had three medalists in senior Jessica Heidenriech (9th in 23:36), junior Katie Bennett (12th in 23:44) and senior Amanda Cox (13th in 23:46). Martin noted this was an outstanding race for Bennett, who missed all of last year due to a stress fracture and is improving each week.
