Twinsburg " Parts of the city near Route 82 and Interstate 480 lost power for about an hour Sept. 3 after a tractor trailer struck a utility poll at a nearby Sheetz gas station.
Twinsburg Police Sgt. Greg Feketik said the truck struck the poll at about 9:30 a.m. as it was pulling out of the station.
"When a truck hits one of our polls, the truck wins every time," said Mark Durbin, spokesperson for Ohio Edison, which provides electricity for the city.
According to Durbin, the incident affected 1,973 customers in Twinsburg, including Twinsburg Government Center and Twinsburg Township Hall on Ravenna Road. Power was partially restored for all but 63 customers by 11 a.m., and fully restored by 12:33 p.m., Durbin said.
Durbin said Ohio Edison workers have begun replacing the utility poll.
Feketik said there were no injuries caused by the incident. He said the driver was issued a minor misdemeanor citation for failure to pay "full time and attention."
Assistant Superintendent Michael Lenzo said three schools " Twinsburg High School, R.B. Chamberlin Middle School and Dodge Intermediate School " were affected by the outage.
"Each school handled the situation a little differently," Lenzo said. "I think some had the students stay put in their classes, and the outage also meant pushing back lunch time a bit.
"Power was restored for the schools by 11 a.m. It was an interruption in the normal routine, but the students and staff handled the situation wonderfully."
