by Steve Batko Correspondent Twinsburg swimming coach Stephanie Zurca is looking for her teams to cut times during the second half of the season. On Dec. 27 at Mayfield, Twinsburg lost to the Wildcats despite some solid performances. The boys fell 125.5-47.5 while the Lady Tigers lost 104-80. It was the first loss of the dual meet campaign for the Lady Tigers (4-1), while the winless boys team nearly won its first meet, Dec. 23 in an 81-78 loss to Hoban. The girls beat Hoban 118-64. Twinsburg meets Brush Jan. 2 at Notre Dame College at 5:45 p.m., before hosting Padua Jan. 7, Stow-Munroe Falls Jan. 9 and Nordonia Jan. 14. Dan Nemeth and Justin Hollinshead dominated for Mayfield as each had four first-place finishes for the Wildcats. Nemeth in the 50 and 100 freestyles, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay, and Hollinshead, in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Junior Shawn Tippen paced Twinsburg's boys against the Wildcats. Tippen captured the 100 butterfly race with a clocking of 59.30. Sophomore Maria Eidam led the girls squad against Mayfield, which was led by Jacquelynn Anderson, Rachel Ciferno and Stephanie Nemeth. Eidam tied Mayfield's Laura Arnold in winning the 100 freestyle with a clocking of 58.07. Eidam also captured the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.14. Sophomore Amanda Knapp won the 100 backstroke (1:04.55) and the 200 IM race (2:16.21). Senior Jillian Dolciato finished first in the diving competition with a mark of 140.40. Dolciato also won the diving against Hoban with a 159.38. Freshman Amanda Vargo won the 500 free race with a time of 5:44.46. In boys action, Twinsburg beat Hoban in the 200 medley relay (1:56.73) behind the efforts of junior Joey Heidenreich, senior Brian Leffler, Tippen, and senior anchor Kevin Ledinsky. Heidenreich also won the 200 free (2:08.28), the 100 backstroke (1:08.17), and helped the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.53) with Leffler, Ledinsky and Tippen, the anchor swimmer. Leffler also had a strong meet as he won the 200 IM (2:20.11) and the 100 breaststroke with a clocking of 1:14.62. Tippen won the 50 free (23.48) and the 100 fly (60.40) as well. Ledinsky finished first in the 100 free race with a time of 58.85. Junior Ryan Peper won the 500 free with a clocking of 5:47.99. For the girls, the Tigers beat Hoban in the 200 MR (2:02.09) with Knapp, Eidam, junior Amanda Marlow, and Vargo. Eidam won the 200 free (2:07.93) while Knapp was the victor in the 200 IM (2:18.37). Marlow won the 50 free (27.54) and the 100 fly (1:04.32). The 200 free relay won (2:00.07) with senior Sarah Ulisse, freshman Erica Martin, sophomore Ashliegh Weddington, and freshman Lexi Ristaino. Vargo won the 100 free (59.08), Eidam the 500 free (5:58.09), Knapp the 100 breaststroke (1:12.26), and freshman Taylor Ulisse won the 100 backstroke (1:11.32). The 400 free relay won (3:57.19) with Eidam, Marlow, Vargo and Knapp. Tippen and Knapp each placed at the 34th Viking Swimming and Diving Invitational at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium at Cleveland State University Dec. 20. Knapp placed third overall in the 100 backstroke and fifth overall in the 200 IM swim at CSU.
