by Michael Leonard Sports Editor Twinsburg is happy in the Northeast Ohio Conference, according to outgoing athletic director Mike Silverthorn. However, several of its neighbors appear unhappy wth the NOC and have included Twinsburg in discussions to form a new league. Four members of the Northeast Ohio Conference have applied for membership to the Suburban League and league officials expect to make a decision on the matter this week. (see story below) If the Suburban League moves are turned down, Stow-Munroe Falls athletic director Cyle Feldman said he is working on another option: forming a new league. "I've also been conducting meetings with Stow, Falls, Hudson, Barberton, Twinsburg and Nordonia," Feldman said. "We could get together here. That's a pretty good six. Those discussions are continuing."
Twinsburg is happy with its place in the NOC, he said. "I see us staying there," Silverthorn said. "We've been very successful in a lot our sports since joining. It's a testament to what we're doing here with our coaches." Cuyahoga Falls City Schools superintendent Dr. Edwin Holland said he feels all options -- including the reformation of the Western Reserve Conference -- are on the table. Neither Nordonia Athletic director Rob Eckenrode nor Silverthorn seemed to indicate the idea had much momentum at this point. Hudson athletic director Ray Ebersole did not return calls seeking comment. E-mail: mleonard@recordpub.com Phone: 330-688-0088 ext. 3113 Comments
