Twinsburg -- Residents with asthma or allergies won't have to drive far for relief when winter brings its wheezing and spring its stuffy noses.

Dr. Richard F. Lavi will open his Allergy, Asthma and Sinus Relief Center at 8054 Darrow Road in Twinsburg Jan. 4. Lavi, his wife and assistant Jennifer, and their two children moved to the city about a year ago from Bloomington, Ill.

"Twinsburg seemed an ideal place to live and work because of its quiet charm and easy access to Cleveland and Akron," Lavi said. "I intend to grow a practice that becomes a center of excellence for Twinsburg and its surrounding communities."

The center will employ three people full time, Jennifer said Dec. 21, and is located in the plaza next to Red's Place Restaurant. Renovations are nearly complete on the center, after being built from the ground up in the plaza.

Lavi said he took an interest in an allergy career after suffering his own trials with asthma and food allergies.

"I grew up with these issues," he said.

Lavi did his residency at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and his fellowship in Allergy/Immunology at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.

He is a graduate of Brown University Medical School in Providence, R.I., and a native of Long Island, N.Y. He currently serves as a clinical instructor at Case Western Reserve University.
