Obituary: John Cifra Jr.

Served in World War II and Korea

John Cifra Jr., 76, of Friendship Ridge Nursing Home in Beaver, Pa., formerly of New Castle, Pa., died the evening of Dec. 15, 2009, in Beaver Medical Center.

Born Jan. 28, 1933, in Cleveland, he was the son of the late John Cifra Sr. and Mary Dutko Cifra. He married the former D. Patricia Diamond. They were married for 45 years. She survives him in Twinsburg.

Mr. Cifra was of Orthodox faith and worked at the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Twinsburg for more than 20 years as a tool and die maker. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School in Cleveland and had a dance band known as "Johnnie Cifra and the Polka Kings."

Mr. Cifra was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and Korea. He also enjoyed reading, going to flea markets, and watching wrestling and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cifra is survived by son Sean Patrick Cifra of Twinsburg; daughters Linda Gresch and Kimberly McCrory, both of Twinsburg; aunts Katherine Bray, Helen Lucas and Maria Dutko, all of New Castle; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling hours were Dec. 19 at Noga Funeral Home in New Castle. A funeral service followed visitation, the Rev. Richard Salley officiating. Burial and committal service was at St. Nicholas Cemetery.
