Twinsburg — A Ravenna Road fire that displaced five occupants of a two-story home Jan. 17 has been ruled “accidental.” Dan Wagner, investigator with the Twinsburg Fire Department, confirmed the fire was caused by power lines that ignited after collapsing under the weight of ice on the roof. “It is very rare for a fire to start this way,” he said Feb. 4. The two-story structure in the Lakeview Lodges neighborhood of the city is no longer livable, Wagner said, and it has not been determined when or if it will be again. The five occupants of the home escaped injury after exiting the house, which was engulfed in “heavy flames and smoke.” One female occupant escaped by jumping from a first-floor window. As many as 12 residents from a neighboring structure were also displaced for a short time due to electrical damage from the fire. Between 20 and 25 residents of other homes in the complex were without power for up to two hours. The blaze took firefighters about 45 minutes to extinguish and caused heavy damage; a damage estimate was not immediately known. — Compiled by Reporter Emily Canning-Dean
