Twinsburg -- The Hilton Garden Inn of Cleveland/Twinsburg is receiving a $600,000 facelift, as the 142-room hotel lobby now boasts a retro-meets-modern look with new curtains, carpet, furniture, lighting and cozy socializing areas.

The Wilcox Drive hotel was chosen as the first of 400 across the country to receive the brand-wide upgrades, according to Roger Greene, general manager of the local Hilton.

"This will enhance a guest's experience," Greene said Feb. 10. "We've been very progressive with this project."

The lobby of the hotel now has elegant pendant lighting fixtures suspended from the ceiling and tall orange and cream-colored curtains that greet guests as they enter the front sliding glass doors. Retro-colored but uniquely contemporary rust and aqua-colored furniture graces the area, with "gazebo" and "fire pit" lounge areas for socializing.

An "island" table for dining or having a cocktail is converted after breakfast for the dinner hours, and a new appetizer menu is available.

They key to "Project Grow," as the company-wide conversion is known, is to cater to a new type of traveler -- someone who spends more time in public spaces.

"This place has just become a social butterfly area," Greene said. "It really encourages socialization."

The entire hotel -- including the corridors, eight public meeting rooms and large ballroom -- will be refurbished by the end of March, while the other 399 Hilton Garden Inns are set to receive the upgrades by the end of 2013.

Greene says that the upgrades are a plus for the community as well, as business travelers are left with a positive impression of Twinsburg that could translate to economic development.

"We're a good ambassador for the brand," Greene said.

The Hilton Garden Inn is contracting with Cincinnati-based FRCH Design Worldwide for the renovations.
