Village residents approve street levy

November 8, 2007

Road repairs in the village,
such as work on Nautilus Trail and Glenwood
Drive, will be easier to fund now that residents approved a replacement street repair levy.
Issue 55, a five-year replacement levy not to exceed 3 mills, passed Nov. 6 with 309 people (60 percent) voting for the levy and 206 people (40 percent) voting against the levy, according to final but unofficial results from the Summit County Board of Elections.
"This will help create money for stronger infrastructure
and better streets," said Mayor Sam Alonso.
The levy will generate approximately $129,000 per year for repair and construction
of streets, roads and bridges. In 2008, the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $91.88 per year for the levy, according to the county fiscal office. Under the previous levy, the owner of a $100,000 home paid $80.07 per year in property taxes for the levy.
