Police News: Speeder had marijuana in car, according to police

Twinsburg -- An officer stopped a speeding Chevrolet Monte Carlo Feb. 4 traveling 81 mph in a 65 mph speed zone. The driver, a 21-year-old Cambridge woman, was found to have a suspended license and two outstanding bench warrants issued by Berea police for unspecified violations.

When the officer went to the driver-side door, he saw a small bag of suspected marijuana between the woman's legs, the report stated.

The woman was arrested and charged with speeding, driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana. She posted a $500 bond for the Twinsburg charges and was given a Feb. 7 court date in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court.

Berea police picked her up on the bench warrants.

Criminal damage

Feb. 7: Vehicle broken into -- Police responded to a Presidential Parkway home, where a woman discovered her car window had been broken out, causing unspecified damage. The woman told police she saw a suspicious vehicle leaving her driveway after hearing loud bangs. The case is closed.

Feb. 7: Window smashed -- A Mortus Drive woman reported someone smashed the rear window of her car while it was parked in her driveway. The amount of the damage was unknown, and the case was closed.

Theft

Feb. 9: Man caught searching garbage container -- Officers patrolling near an East Aurora Road business discovered a 51-year-old Chamberlin Road man allegedly taking scrap metal from a garbage container at the business. He was charged with theft.

Feb. 7: Cell phone swiped -- A man at an East Aurora Road restaurant reported a cell phone was taken from his vehicle while it was parked at the restaurant. The value of the phone was unknown, and the case is under investigation.

Jan. 25: Alleged thief caught -- A student at R.B. Chamberlin Middle School reported an MP3 player was taken from a gym locker. Other students told police the identity of another student who was seen going through the locker. Police contacted that student's mother, who told them her son had come home from school with an MP3 player that day, and the 15-year-old township boy was charged with theft.

The case was forwarded to the Summit County juvenile court system.

Fraud

Jan. 23: Man bounced checks, arrested -- A Dutton Drive business reported someone issued two checks to the business that were found to have insufficient funds. The business gave police a description of a suspect. Officers questioned a 47-year-old Columbia, Ohio, man, who turned himself in to police Jan. 25. He was charged with first-degree misdemeanor fraud and fifth-degree felony fraud and released on bond.

The amount of the bad checks was not known.

Resisting arrest

Feb. 4: Known warrants -- After seeing a 21-year-old Darrow Park Drive man, who was known to have been issued a Cuyahoga County Sheriff's arrest warrant for breaking and entering and issued a Macedonia police warrant on a misdemeanor assault, an officer attempted to arrest him. The man attempted to flee, but was caught.

The man was charged with having a warrant, resisting an officer and obstructing official business.

Criminal damaging

Feb. 7: Broken windows -- Police responded to a Curry Lane home where a man reported having the rear windows of his vehicle broken out. The amount of damage was unspecified and an investigation is pending.

Warrant

Feb. 4: Dispute leads to arrest -- After arriving at a Curry Lane home for a reported dispute between a 51-year-old man and his wife, police found the man to have a driving-under-suspension warrant with the North Randall police.

The man was arrested and handed over to the North Randall police.

Resisting arrest

Feb. 3: Domestic violence -- Officers responding to a report of domestic dispute at a township home, charged a Twinsburg Township woman with domestic violence and resisting arrest. The victim reported injuries, but they were unspecified in the report.

Violation of a
protection order

Feb. 9: Missing car light leads to arrest -- Officers stopped a 27-year-old Warren Parkway man at Woodland Point and Hiram Lane for a missing license plate light. Officers discovered the man had just visited his daughter, but that he had been issued a protection order not to do that, so he was charged with violating the protection order. He was sent to Summit County Jail.

Domestic violence

Feb. 7: Man accused of pushing woman -- Officers responding to a report of a domestic dispute at a township home charged a 31-year-old male resident with domestic violence, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. The man's wife told police the man allegedly pulled her hair and pushed her down. Injuries were not specified, and it was not known if medical treatment was required.

Forgery

Jan. 24: Business issued bad checks -- A Liberty Road business reported a customer issued it four bad checks totaling $820. The business gave police a description of a possible suspect, but it was not clear from the report if that person was charged.

Possession of marijuana

Jan. 15: Police dog finds suspected drugs -- Officers who stopped a 19-year-old man for a broken taillight on Highland Road said they smelled an odor of drugs in the vehicle and requested a police dog unit. The dog searched the vehicle and found a small bag of suspected marijuana.

The man was charged with minor misdemeanor marijuana possession.
