Police News: Driver charged with drug possession

Twinsburg Township -- After stopping a 42-year-old Winthrop Avenue man Feb. 19 on Route 91 for an expired license plate, a sheriff's deputy reported he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Upon further inspection, reports state, the deputy discovered a small bag of suspected marijuana and a glass pipe.

The man was charged with drug possession, a minor misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. He was summoned to Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court and released at the scene.

Theft

Feb. 17: House guest steals phone -- After using a Ray Court woman's cell phone, an 18-year-old man left the woman's residence with the phone, without the woman's permission. The man got into his vehicle and left the scene before police arrived.

The phone value is estimated at $600. An investigation is pending.

Warrant

Feb. 21: Traffic stop reveals warrant -- During a traffic stop on Hadden Road, a sheriff's deputy discovered the driver, a 29-year-old Akron man, had an active warrant for driving with a suspended license.

The driver was charged with driving with a suspended license, a first-degree misdemeanor, and transported to Summit County Jail.

Theft

Feb. 18: Abandoned vehicle discovered -- An officer responded to a Darrow Road business after receiving a call about an abandoned vehicle. The officer discovered the vehicle had been entered as stolen by the Bedford Heights Police Department. The vehicle was impounded and the owner, a Cleveland woman, was notified her car had been found.

Feb. 17: Equipment stolen from vehicle -- An officer saw a vacant vehicle parked in a lot across from Waldo Way. The owner was notified and upon further investigation, it was determined a stereo, valued at $100, two subwoofers, valued at $200 total, and an amplifier with an unlisted value, were stolen from the car.

An investigation is pending.

Warrant

Feb. 4: Aurora police transports suspect -- Aurora police advised Reminderville police they had a 28-year-old Orchard Avenue woman in custody who had been issued a Reminderville warrant for driving with a suspended license. Aurora police transported the woman to the Reminderville police department, where she was charged with driving with a suspended license, released on bond and given a court date of Feb. 11.

Driving under suspension

Feb. 4: Driving with a suspended license -- An officer stopped a 35-year-old Solon man for not yielding the right of way and for having a broken tail light at Beaver and Nautilus trails. The officer discovered the man was driving with a suspended license. The man was arrested, released on bond and was given a court date of Feb. 12.
