Spring into Red Cross
training in Twinsburg

Residents of Twinsburg and the surrounding area can receive American Red Cross certified training in First Aid, CPR, babysitting and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator, without making a trip into Akron. Classes are offered year round at the 7996 Darrow Road in Twinsburg, at the Twinsburg Township Municipal Complex.

* CPR/AED for adults -- This course will teach people to overcome a reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults.

Classes will be April 23 from 6 to 10:30 p.m.; May 15 from 6 to 10:30 p.m.; May 27 from 6 to 10:30 p.m.; June 3 from 6 to 10:30 p.m.; June 19 from 6 to 10:30 p.m.; and June 23 from 6 to 10:30 p.m.

* Babysitter's training -- Those between 11 to 15 years old can acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants and school-age children.

Combining video, activities, hands-on skills training and discussion for a complete learning experience, the training will show people how to respond to emergencies and illnesses with first aid; rescue breathing and other appropriate care; make decisions under pressure; communicate with parents to learn household rules; recognize safety and hygiene issues; manage young children; and feed, diaper and care for infants. Classes will be May 31 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and June 7 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Leprechaun Foundation hosts
third-annual race night

The Leprechaun Foundation, a non-profit organization that grants wishes to terminally and chronically ill children will conduct a fundraising event April 26. The third-annual "Night at the Races" will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Solon Valley Party Center from 7 p.m. to midnight and will include dinner, a Chinese raffle, an oral auction and videotaped horse races.

Tickets for the event are $40 and include dinner, beverages and a ticket for the grand prize drawing. Horses that are racing can be "named" for a $25 charitable contribution.

The Leprechaun Foundation anonymously grants wishes to children with chronic and terminal illnesses, sponsors various projects and provides volunteers for special events benefiting the children.

The foundation was established in early 1980 at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital and is involved with all major hospitals in the Cleveland area, including the Ireland Cancer Center of University Hospitals, MetroHealth Medical Center, Health Hill, The Cleveland Clinic and Hospice of Western Reserve.

The event will be conducted at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Solon Party Center, 6340 Melbury Avenue in Solon.

Attend a clinic to prepare
for hardball seasons

There will be four Twinsburg Baseball League "Players Skills Clinics" offered for all recreation league participants. They will take place Sundays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Twinsburg Fitness Center.

Cost is $25 per session. Bring a glove and bat. On April 20 and 27 will be minor, major and senior leagues.
