BEATRICE 'HONEY BEE' WOODS

Spent 'wonderful' years in Twinsburg

Beatrice ("Honey Bee") Woods, 104, died at her home on March 28, 2008.

Born Pearl Beatrice Keeler to Hoyt and Pearl Keeler in Penns Creek, Pa., she later lived in New York, Colorado and Ohio. She married John Henry Morrison in 1921. He preceded her in death, and in 1953 she married Carl Stoner Woods.

Mrs. Woods is the beloved mother of Elaine Shakley of Chagrin Falls; Maythorne Winterkorn of Rochester, N.Y.; and Rachel Jones of Boulder, Col. She is survived by two stepsons, Martin Woods and Jonathan Woods, both of California; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

She graduated from Susquehanna University at 16 years old with a degree in banking and accounting and had a passion for learning. She worked throughout her life, even during the Depression.

Over the years, she was employed as an accountant, comparison shopper, bridal consultant and professional seamstress. Her strong belief in education led her to sell encyclopedias in the home as a way of helping children succeed in school. After marrying Woods, she managed his dental practice.

She studied architecture and worked with Woods to restore three homes, placing them on the Historical Registry. She was known for her recipes and authored a cookbook, "Hot From the Hive: Recipes from the Kitchen of Bee Woods." She studied and practiced health and nutrition and shared remedies with many people.

She met President Teddy Roosevelt at 8 years old and had an interest in politics ever since. She has voted in every election since 1928.

She lived an active and creative life until the time of her death, never losing her keen sense of curiosity. She donated her body to science. In lieu of a memorial service, a family reunion is planned in the future. She and her husband spent many wonderful years in Twinsburg.
