Police News: Student shot in face with pellet gun at high school

Twinsburg -- One student was arrested while another was hospitalized after being shot in the face with a pellet gun late last week, police said.

Twinsburg High School officials reported April 17 that while a school function was going on inside the school in the evening, a juvenile high school student fired a pellet gun and struck another juvenile high school student in the nose while the two were standing in the school parking lot.

The victim was driven to the hospital by her mother. No one else was injured.

The suspect was arrested April 18 and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony; properly firing a firearm in a school safety zone, a second-degree felony; and unlawful possession of a dangerous ordinance, a fifth-degree felony.

The suspect was transported to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center and is awaiting a hearing date.

Underage drinking

April 18: Drinking and hiking -- An officer who was patrolling Interstate 480 saw a car parked at the side of the road with its hazard lights on. As the officer pulled up behind the car, he saw two people, a 20-year-old Youngstown woman and a 21-year-old Boardman man, coming out of the woods toward the car.

The officer questioned them and both suspects admitted to drinking alcohol. The woman was charged with underage consumption of alcohol and the man was charged with public intoxication, having an open container of alcohol in the car and littering alongside the highway.

The pair were taken to the police station and later released.

April 13: Sleeping it off -- An officer patrolling Olde Pond Lane reported two men were sleeping in a car parked on the roadway. The men, a 18-year-old Chagrin Falls man and an 18-year-old Aurora man, both showed signs of drinking.

Both men admitted to drinking alcohol and the officer placed them under arrest on underage consumption charges. Both men were released from the Twinsburg Police Department on a $500 bond and were given April 18 court dates at the Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court.

Unauthorized charges

April 15: Money problems -- A Sharonbrook Drive woman reported someone used her debit card to make $2,347 in unauthorized purchases. The first purchase was on March 28 and the latest was April 14, when she became aware of the charges.

Police have a suspect and an investigation is ongoing.

Theft

April 11: Theft in garage -- A Darien Lane man reported someone entered his garage in the evening and stole an MP3 music player, valued at $349, and a GPS navigational system, valued at $350, from his unlocked car. There are no suspects.

Fleeing police

April 3: Late for work? -- An officer attempted to stop a vehicle at 10:51 a.m. that was being driven erratically on Chamberlin Road, when the driver turned into the parking lot of his East Aurora Road employer and fled into the business on foot.

Officers could not locate the suspect, but the suspect turned himself in to Twinsburg police April 8. He was charged with fleeing, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, fictitious plates, equipment violation and having an opened container of alcohol in his vehicle.

No one was injured.

--Twinsburg Township--Domestic violence

April 21: Feud leads to arrest -- A woman reported her son pushed her at her Ray Court home and then pushed his brother.

Both victims declined medical attention.

The suspect was arrested on a domestic violence charge and transported to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.

Disorderly conduct

April 19: Disturbance -- Deputies and Twinsburg EMS responded to a Ray Court home for a disturbance report. A woman there was found to be highly intoxicated. She refused to cooperate with deputies and EMS and was charged with disorderly conduct.

EMS transported her to South Point Hospital.
