Strong league play continues for the young Twinsburg softball team this spring.
The visiting Lady Tigers improved to 14-3 overall and 7-0 in the Northeast Ohio Conference River Division with an 11-2 win over Valley Forge (3-13, 1-5).
Twinsburg scored twice in the first and third innings, once in the fourth and three times in the sixth and seventh frames. Valley Forge scored one run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Lady Tigers had 10 hits and three errors and Valley Forge had four hits and five errors. Courtney Cox had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs. Freshman right-hander Lisa Lash got the win on the mound to improve to 14-3.
First-year head coach Tracee McCoy starts two seniors along with five juniors and three freshmen as Twinsburg is one of the most improved teams in Northeast Ohio this season.
Contributions from everyone again was the key in a 4-0 victory April 30 at home over Nordonia (7-12, 2-2).
Lash allowed nine hits and was supported by sound defense as the Lady Tigers committed just one error. Lash allowed three hits from standout Knight junior center fielder Steph Misciagna.
Twinsburg totaled eight hits as Amanda Cox went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a home run and two runs batted in.
Senior infielder Alex Podmore was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, while Taylor Menhart, Natalie Arnold, Jasmine Bentley and Lash each added a hit.
As a result of their stellar play, the second-seeded Lady Tigers earned a first-round bye in the Division I Akron District Tournament.
They are scheduled to host the Wadsworth-Firestone winner in a sectional championship game May 13 at 4:30 p.m. Wadsworth and Firestone are set to play May 12.
Cuyahoga Falls got the top seed and Stow-Munroe Falls and Akron Ellet got the third and fourth seeds, respectively.
Twinsburg was scheduled to host division rival Valley Forge May 7. Results were not available at press time.
They Lady Tigers are set to entertain NOC foe Parma Normandy May 12 and are scheduled to head to Normandy May 14. Both contests are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
