Capital sentences should not be

commuted

In last week's Twinsburg Bulletin, the subject of the death penalty, by a group wishing to abolish it and petitioning Gov. John Kasich, was reported ("Opponents of death penalty urge Kasich to commute sentences to life," Jan. 18).

I will be sending a letter to the governor also on this subject. It seems this group feels that the death penalty could somehow "hurt" the prisoner. The late Twinsburg Officer Joshua T. Miktarian wasn't given the chance to finish out his life with his wife and infant daughter. We all prayed that he felt nothing when he was shot. Do any of these people consider this young officer's death?

Convicted murderer [of Officer Miktarian] Ashford Thompson was sometimes made to look like a saint during his trial.

Saints don't murder people while standing within inches of them, taking time to make sure they die.

Please, send letters to the governor and tell him how you feel before he makes a decison on this.
