The Twinsburg High ice hockey team beat Garfield Heights 10-0 to maintain a share of the top spot in the Blue Central East Division of the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League.
In the Dec. 21 game at Dan Kostel Arena, Twinsburg managed to put 42 shots on goal in the victory while Tiger junior goaltender Braden Susnik turned aside all 12 shots he faced.
It was the third shutout of the year for Susnik and his second in league play.
"It's nice to go into the holiday break with a hold on first place in the division," said Jim DiRosa.
Junior forward Andrew Leonard started it off for the Tigers just 45 seconds into the second period with an unassisted power play goal.
Another Bulldog penalty for head contact, four minutes later, allowed the Tigers to score again on a power play. This time it was junior defenseman Mike Peelman that slammed the puck into the back of the net, assisted by senior forward Jared Rodic.
Dylan Aoki, a junior forward, hit for a goal on an assist from Brennan Byers.
Twinsburg senior defenseman Eddie Govang ended the scoring for the period with a goal off of feeds from Rodic and Peelman. The Tigers led 4-0 at the end of the second period.
Rodic scored on a short-handed, unassisted goal just 30 seconds into the final period while senior defenseman Brandon Best was next with feeds from Rodic and sophomore forward Kyle DiRosa.
Sophomore forward Zack Blackburn scored next on assists from Rodic and DiRosa and then sophomore forward Zach Bernstein notched his first goal of the season with an assist from Govang.
Best would slam the puck home again on an assist from Leonard while the final goal of the game would come from Leonard on feeds from Aoki and senior forward Nick Elnikar.
