The Twinsburg High ice hockey team lost 8-0 in the first round of the Kent qualifying bracket of the state hockey tournament at the Kent State Arena on Feb. 13.

Twinsburg finished 11-6-2 overall after falling 8-0 to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.

"Although the loss marked the end of the season, the hockey Tigers had notched the best record in the program's 10-year history," said head coach James DiRosa.

"We knew it would be a tough game," he added. 'CVCA has one of the most potent offenses in Ohio with the Sunde brothers, Mark and Luke. Both are already in the [OHSAA] record books for most goals and assists in a season. I think we came ready to give CVCA a fight."

The first period was a battle as hard hits and quick shots were the norm.

At the 11:53 mark, the Royals went on the power play when the Tigers received a tripping penalty. Twinsburg fought off the Royals advantage for just over a minute and then Luke Sunde slipped the puck into the net off an assist from his brother Mark. The balance of the period was scoreless and CVCA led 1-0.

CVCA blew the game open in the second period with four goals -- three by Luke Sunde and one by Mark Sunde.

Team records were also shattered. Senior forward Brandon Best set the new career marks for most points (87) and the most assists (42).

Sophomore forward Kyle DiRosa set the single season record for assists (17).

Junior goaltender Braden Susnik set new season marks for lowest goals against average (2.3) and highest save percentage (90.5 percent).

The Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League recently announced their selections to the 2013 All League teams. Tiger Braden Susnik was named as the third-team goalie for the 2013 Blue All League Team.

Outgoing seniors who will be include Nick Elnikar, Jared Rodic, Anthony Morelli, Eddie Govang, and Best.
