For the youthful Twinsburg High volleyball team, it is an early season of the Tigers having on the job training.
The young Tigers, with only two athletes back from a 13-9 unit, are learning against a quality schedule.
Twinsburg played at Brecksville and lost 25-8, 25-10, and 25-18 on Sept. 1 in a tough match in the Suburban League. The Tigers (0-4) moved to 0-2 in the powerful National Division of the SL
Pacing the Tigers in kills were juniors Camari Griffin and Annaiya Ruffin, who each posting four.
Sophomore Simone Gest had two blocks one serving ace, plus junior Cassidy Liotta had 10 assists and 11 digs. Junior Bella Varga also had 11 digs.
In the league opener, the Lady Tigers lost at North Royalton 12-25, 11-25, and 17-25 on Aug. 30.
Head coach Tonia Brennen was pleased to see the program's junior varsity team and freshman clubs had posted wins over North Royalton.
Gest registered six kills against North Royalton while Varga had nine digs, and Liotta had 13 feeds.
Seniors Marie Piccone and Shelbi Netzband each had one ace in the loss. Piccone and Varga are the lone returnees from last year.
In the season opening tri match with Solon and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Twinsburg battled and lost both outings. Solon won 25-10, 25-19 and CVCA came out on top, 25-7, 25-18.
Twinsburg hosts Wadsworth in a league clash Sept. 8 before travelling to Hudson (Sept. 13) and Macedonia Nordonia (Sept. 15) in league games.
The Chagrin Falls Tournament is set for Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. All other matches begin at 6:30 p.m.
