Getting a solid draw is half of the battle in starting the post season in a positive fashion. Twinsburg's volleyball squad has done that.
Now the Tigers just need to continue to grow and improve.
Twinsburg, 5-14 overall, earned the sixth seed in the 13-team field at the upcoming Solon Division I sectional-district tournament.
Twinsburg is coming off a pair of losses in the Suburban League National Conference. The Tigers lost 25-14, 25-15, 25-12 to Wadsworth Oct. 4, followed by a 16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-17, 15-11 loss to Hudson Oct. 5.
Bella Varga led the Tigers with 19 kills and 21 digs against Hudson, while libero Marie Piccone had 25 digs and setter Cassidy Liotta finished with 45 assists.
Head coach Tonia Brennen has guided the Lady Tigers to three straight sectional titles and as many district berths.
The seeds at Solon included Brecksville as the top seed over Solon, followed by Aurora, Kenston, Maple Heights, Twinsburg, Nordonia, Bedford, Garfield Heights, Cleveland John Adams, Cleveland Max Hayes, Cleveland Rhodes, and Cleveland John F. Kennedy High.
In first round action, Twinsburg will play Rhodes Oct. 19. The match will begin 20 minutes after the Maple Heights-John Adams contest at 6 p.m.
Twinsburg will play in a sectional final Oct. 22 against the Maple-Adams winner. That game will start 20 minutes after the 3 p.m. sectional final at Solon. Brecksville is the likely winner of the top bracket.
"I think we are in an excellent spot in the bracket to make it back to the district semis," pointed out Brennen.
The district semis at Solon are set for Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.
"We are looking forward to the girls playing positive (in the post season tourney) and playing to win," emphasized Brennen.
In upcoming action, the Lady Tigers play at rival Cuyahoga Falls Oct. 13 in a league battle.
Twinsburg is 2-10 in the National Conference of the Suburban League this fall.
