Making a huge effort to finish the regular season strong and head into sectional play with momentum, the youthful Twinsburg boys basketball team would love to continue to play well and shake things up.
The Tigers' latest positive surge came on the road at Chagrin Falls, as Twinsburg posted a 61-54 non-league road win Feb. 18.
The victory followed a pair of win the Suburban League National Conference. The Tigers defeated Hudson 49-43 at home Feb. 14, followed by a 56-52 win home win over Nordonia Feb. 17.
Against Chagrin, sound Tiger team defense held Chagrin to just 19 first-half points while Phil Schmook's offense got going with an impressive 37-point effort in the second half.
With a balanced attack, Twinsburg was able to convert shots against Chagrin (9-11).
Using a variety of shots, junior guard Michael Moore scored well at Chagrin. The 6-foot-1 Moore buried four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points.
Senior wing Mike Cusma hit critical free throws in the win. Cusma made a career-high 11 free throws and ended with 15 points.
Junior forward-guard Darrell Newsom and freshman forward-guard Kenny McElrath each put in nine points for Twinsburg. Sophomore guard Ryan Felberg scored four points as well.
Sophomore forward Ralph Campbell added three points while senior forward-guard Vince Paolucci, and junior guard Leroy Fitzgerald each had two points.
Chagrin Falls was led by guard Trevon Grimes and Jenson Yonker, who each had 12 points.
Twinsburg earned the sixth seed and will host a first round game in the Solon Division I sectional-district tournament.
In the first round, Twinsburg hosts seventh seed Aurora (6-13) March 1 at 7 p.m.
The Tigers play Feb. 24 at Cuyahoga Falls in the regular season finale.
