Twinsburg's boys tennis team was able to get its season opener in during a stretch of steady rains recently, and the Tigers were victorious 5-0.
The Tigers, who return five players from last year's 12-5 unit, opened the spring with a 5-0 win over visiting North Olmsted March 30.
Coached by 10-year veteran mentor Michael Porinchak, Twinsburg placed 5-2 and in third place in the Suburban League National Conference in 2016.
In singles action against North Olmsted, sophomore Marco Nesic was impressive at first singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Taylor Benjamin. Benjamin is a multiple-year starter for North Olmsted in singles play.
Twinsburg senior Preston Bell registered a big 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles. Bell ousted Sajaan Patel in the hard-fought match.
Porinchak was happy to see sophomore Zach McIlroy post a win at the third singles spot.
A newcomer this spring for Twinsburg, McIlroy posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Matt Lupu at the third singles position.
In first doubles play, Twinsburg was led by senior Nick Carcione and junior Darryl Nana, who were easy winners, 6-2, 6-0.
Tiger senior Erwin Nana and junior Ryan Lecaros teamed up at second doubles for Twinsburg and won 6-3, 6-3.
It was a strong Twinsburg varsity debut for Erwin Nana and Lecaros.
In upcoming cation, Twinsburg is set to play at Brecksville April 5 and then have four straight home matches against Strongsville (April 6), Stow Munroe-Falls (April 10), Chagrin Falls (April 11), and against Wadsworth (April 12). All matches begin at 4 p.m.
The Tigers will visit rival Lyndhurst Brush April 13 to start a four-game road trip.
