Twinsburg boys tennis picking up momentum

With five athletes back from last year's 12-win squad, veteran Twinsburg head coach Michael Porinchak has been able to ease in his newcomers and mix lineups this season.

Twinsburg posted a non-league 5-0 over Lyndhurst Brush April 13 as Porinchak mixed up his lineup.

The Tigers are 6-2 overall as of press time and 2-2 in the Suburban League National Conference.

This season, the Tigers setbacks have come in close 3-2 losses to Brecksville and North Royalton.

"Our team has been playing great lately," offered Porinchak.

Sophomore Zach McIlroy moved from third singles to first singles and won 6-2, 6-0 over Brush.

Returning junior Soumil Jain moved to second singles against the Arcs and won 6-0, 6-0.

Junior Ryan Lecaros played at the third singles position and was impressive with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Seniors Erwin Nana and Nick Carcione won at first doubles by a score of 6-0, 6-0, which the same margin of victory for the second doubles tandem of junior Nathan Moeliono and sophomore Mike Sterling.

The Tigers won 4-1 in league play over Wadsworth April 12.

Sophomore Marco Nesic was at first singles in the league test and won 6-1, 6-0 over the Grizzlies.

"We have been led by Marco at first singles and he is 6-1 this season so far," said Porinchak.

Senior Preston Bell was a 6-2, 7-6 winner at second singles over Wadsworth while McIlroy was a 6-4, 7-5 winner at the third spot.

Carcione and junior Daryl Nana impressed at first singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

"The first doubles team of Nick Carcione and Daryl Nana are also playing really well right now, going 4-0 this past week with big conference wins against Stow and Wadsworth," pointed out Porinchak.

Erwin Nana and Lecaros teamed up at second doubles and fell 6-0, 7-6 to Wadsworth.

Twinsburg beat Chagrin Falls 5-0 in non-league action April 11.

In singles play, Nesic won 6-0, 6-0, Bell was a winner (4-6, 6-1, 10-1), and McIlroy won 6-0, 6-2.

At first doubles, Daryl Nana and Carcione won 6-2, 6-1 and the second doubles duo of Erwin Nana and Lecaros won 6-1, 6-1.

The Tigers also recently beat Stow-Munroe Falls 5-0 in league play.

Nesic won 6-2, 7-5 at first singles, followed by Bell winning 6-2, 6-2, and McIlroy won 6-2, 6-2 at the third singles spot.

Carcione and Daryl Nana won 6-0, 6-3 at first doubles while Erwin Nana and Lecaros registered a 6-3, 6-2 win at second doubles.

In upcoming action, the Tigers will play at Nordonia April 19, host Cuyahoga Falls April 24, play at Richfield Revere April 25, and travel to Aurora April 26.
