Sophomore Marco Nesic dropped his lone match in district tournament action, but the Twinsburg standout had a post season and a spring to remember for the Tigers boys tennis program.
Twinsburg, which won nine total matches in sectional tennis tournament play, saw Nesic possibly become the Tiger's first district qualifier by securing the fourth and final seed to districts.
Nesic competed for head coach Michael Porinchak at the Medina Division I District Championships at Springside Racquet and Fitness Club May 18.
In first round action, Nesic had to face the tournament's best player perhaps in University School's Paul Gota.
The talented Nesic lost 6-0, 6-0 to eventual district champion in Gota.
Gota was the top seed and won the district title match 6-4, 7-5 over Solon second seed Vlad Rotnov. Both Gota and Rotnov are seniors.
"I am super proud of Marco," said Porinchak. "He got a tough draw and played a great player who could go on to win the state championship as well."
"It was fun to watch Marco compete against someone of such high ability," he added. "It is the experience that he needs to make it back (to the district tournament) next year."
Besides freshmen standouts Arjun Brahmbhatt of St. Ignatius and Green's Logan Langovsky, Nesic was the youngest player at this district tournament.
